Material

Skeg repair has to be done right. Just slapping on a piece of stiff 6061 flat bar is a sure way to have it snap off on the first thing it touches. For small repairs/small break offs we use a backing plate and fill with 100% 5356 filler wire/weld. For big repairs/break offs we use a full cast aluminum skeg replacement. Softer materials (cast aluminum or 5356) allow flex instead of break away.

Process

Full replacement: Skegs are beveled, gapped, tacked, checked for straightness, root welded, checked for straightness, capped, checked for straightness, smoothed/shaped. The end result being as near to factory strength as possible. We do not paint.

Pricing

  • Chips, Cracks or Chunks Missing: Weld and blend $125 to $275 (depending severity) + HST

  • Large chunks/full break offs, Replace full skeg and blend, full replacement skeg is used: $475 + HST
